The moment we have all been waiting for...
Before I announce my favourite disc of 2012, I would like to throw out a few honourable mentions.
First, Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City. Not my type of music, generally, so it couldn't crack the Top 10. Still, solid record. Second, The Vaccines - The Vaccines Come of Age. I love these guys, and their first disc was killer. Unfortunately, their second effort just did not quite do it for me and it didn't make the Top 10!
OK... without further delay...
#1. Damien Jurado - Maraqopa.
Damien has been producing music out of Seattle since 1995. He reminds me a bit of Elliot Smith in his sensibility and in his songwriting. I love this disc because I can put it on in the morning, afternoon, or evening and enjoy it equally. It is unassuming but creative and confident. I highly recommend checking out Maraqopa and Damien's back catalogue; it's all good.
Happy Holidays!
