Too often than not, governments pass laws without thinking through the consequences of the laws, least of which the cost of enforcing them. The result is that we have many laws that are unenforced but nonetheless remain on the books.
This story, therefore, shows that therer are still some sensible people out there. A bid to ban BBQing in Edinburgh parks was defeated, because the cost of enforcing such a ban would be prohibitive. Having spent just under three weeks in Edinburgh, I can say that this strory justifies the high esteem in which I hold the people of the Edinburgh.
