Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, is an amazing piece of literature. It was billed as a new genre of literature, the non-fiction novel.
It turns out now that many aspects of the novel may actually have been made up. I am shocked and outraged! Well, not really. It is still an amazing piece of literature, and despite the fallout, this work will endure.
It may be that for many readers who were alive at the time and familiar with the murder described in the book that the truth behind the case is as important as the story itself.
But for those of us who did not live then, while the fact that the novel describes a real murder with real victims and real criminals, the narrative is what grippred us.
So Capote made some stuff up. I suppose, I will read In Cold Blood differently now. But read it, I will. After all, how can you argue with:
