It is with great pleasure (and little bit of sadness) that I announce that our colleague Russ Brown has been appointed a Judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Edmonton.
I have known Justice Brown for almost nine years now, during which we have collaborated on many projects academic or otherwise. The past years have made for a great friendship, and it will be a bit hard for me to come to the law school knowing that my now former colleague no longer graces the hallways with his larger than life presence.
On the other hand, he will be a few minutes across the river making his presence felt in the halls of justice. I must commend the Prime Minister (and those ministers that nominated him) for making an excellent choice of judge. Justice Brown has the intellect, knowledge, and temperament required to make a great trial judge. In the due course of time, undoubtedly, one day, he will also go on to make a great appellate judge.
Once again - I congratulate Justice Brown on this great milestone. I wish you and your family the best of luck in your new endeavor.

Congratulations Justice Brown! My favorite professor, no one deserves this more than him

Congratulations, Mr. Justice Brown! While it's sad to lose a professor of that caliber, he will be a great addition to the bench.
