End the term paper?

Is the term paper a concept whose time had come? This article argues for ending it, at least in the conext of undergraduate studies. Here, we have a soft writing requirement, i.e. law students must take at least one course that has a writing component. Usually this is in Jurisprudence or legal ethics. Frankly, I too have found term papers useless. My preference is weekly short writing assignments. They are a paid to administer, however, and require as much discipline on the instructor as the student.
