The Toronto District School Board may be heading that way:
A motion to explore the transition to digital textbooks was approved by trustees. The Board has spent approximately $8 million on textbooks in the last fiscal year and will spend approximately $100 million over the next ten years. Printed textbooks are damaging to the environment. The Director has been asked to present a plan by January 2011 to increase access to digital course material content in middle and secondary schools. The Director must also conduct a feasibility study examining the creation of curriculum content that can be made available for digital distribution.
The medium is the message.
